Cathy Lynn Lanier served as the Chief, Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPDC) from January 2007 through September 15, 2016. She is the first woman to achieve the position.  On August 16, 2016, it was announced that Lanier would retire from the MPD to become Senior Vice President of Security for the National Football League (NFL).
