Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez served as the Commander, Combined Joint Task Force-7(CJTF-7) from June 14, 2003 through May 15, 2004.  

The Task Force was replaced by Multi-National Force - Iraq (MNF-I) and Multi-National Corps - Iraq (MNC-I) on May 15, 2004.

LTG Sanchez was succeeded as commander of coalition ground forces in Iraq by a four-star general, former Army Vice Chief of Staff George Casey. This changeover was part of a larger split in responsibilities as LTG Sanchez's former command, Combined Joint Task Force 7 under a three-star general, was superseded by MNF-I under a four-star general.
