On 18 January 2003, the 4^th Infantry Division, under the leadership of MG Raymond Odierno, was given the deployment order for movement to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In record time for a heavy armored Division, the 4^th Infantry Division, augmented by artillery, engineer, and support troops from active duty, National Guard, and Army reserve units to make them ‘Task Force Ironhorse’, loaded their equipment onto 37 ships bound for Turkey.
