F. Whitten Peters served as the 19th Under Secretary of the Air Force from August 3, 1999 through January 20, 2001.

After Secretary of the Air Force Sheila Widnall resigned, Peters served as acting Secretary of the Air Force for 19 months (November 1, 1997 through July 30, 1999).
