Major General (Maj Gen) James L. Hobson, Jr., served as the 3rd Commander, Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), from July 22, 1994 through July 8, 1997.

General Hobson was one of the first advocates for the creation of AFSOC.

In 2015, General Hobson was inducted to US Special Operations Command's (SOCOM) 'Commando Hall of Honor'.
